Fell was not an archaeologist at all. He had a PH. D. in marine biology.
He may have been quite accomplished when it comes to dealing with marine invertebrates but....
Jerald Dirks, IIRC, is a former xtian preacher who converted to Islam a fact which causes xtians to stain the backs of their underwear and muslims to stain the front of theirs. When you get to know me a bit better you will learn that I regard anyone holding a "theology" degree ( of any type ) as a fraud who should get into an honest line of work.
I doubt he became less of an asshole when he converted.
Who was the other one you mentioned?

Quote:David H. Kelley, an archaeologist at the University of Calgary who is credited with a major breakthrough in the decipherment of Mayan glyphs, complained about Fell in a 1990 essay: "Fell's work [contains] major academic sins, the three worst being distortion of data, inadequate acknowledgment of predecessors, and lack of presentation of alternative views."
