Indeed. As an adaptation of Heinlein's novel, I thought it was terrible. As sci-fi, I thought it was bad. As an action-filled bug-hunt with elements of political satire, it was decent.
I didn't bother seeing it again, or with any of the sequels.

I was much more disappointed with "Temple of Doom" than "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", but I suspect that had more to do with lowered expectations than anything else.

It really makes me wonder how a more faithful adaptation would do. I suspect that there are a large number of fans who would pay to see it again and again on the big screen (as well as buy it on disc and buy merchandise).
With Hollywood's mindset, I can't see it happening though.
