You don't have to believe it happened in order to practise the faith. My former Archbishop of York (the second highest in CoE hierarchy) denied even the existence of the historical Jesus. He denied more than the resurrection. Would you call him a non-Christian?? Surely not. Let's get real!!!!
Actually, yes. He's no more of a xtian than I am. Xtians certainly do not adhere to the alleged teachings of their godboy. In fact, in no other religion is there a wider gap between the observable way they act and the principles they profess to follow. If you then also subtract out the silly supernatural shit that they claim to believe, what's left? Or more to the point, why bother?
Once again, thanks for putting me in the position of having to agree with the crazies on the board. I really appreciate it.
You've got it all wrong. The motion of the debate is meant to be:
"The Bible contains untruths, falsehoods and even deliberate lies"
This post is where the motion of the debate was clearly stated: http://atheistforums.org/thread-14612-po...#pid336363.
Godschild has said that I'm not a scriptural Christian. If Scriptures are that important to him, he should be willing to debate a topic that exposes the Bible to ridicule. From that post, you can see that it was he who first challenged me to a debate and he claimed I didn't dare to take up his challenge.
I started this thread because I wasn't sure which moderator to ask. I thought they might not like it if I sent a private message because I don't know which moderator is in charge of debates. Tiberius very kindly answered in post #10.
I was also hoping that by starting a thread and taking up Godschild's challenge in this way, I could force him not to flee. From my experience, Christians on the internet are always afraid of an open debate about the Bible. It's as if they know the Bible is the weakest and most vulnerable part of their faith. I didn't think he would dare to chicken out after I had made a big fuss about having accepted his challenge.
I have also worded the motion so as to be fair to him. I claimed that the Bible contained not just untruths but deliberate lies. That means I've got to show intention to deceive. I can't go the atheist's usual route of bringing up the talking snake etc or to show the contradictions because these may be genuine errors or the writer believed the ridiculous stories he had written. Errors aren't lies. An intention on the part of the writer to deceive is essential if I want to show lies. I was prepared to do it.
And then Lion came to this thread to say how about a group of them doing the debate against me alone. I even accepted that suggestion.
Despite all this, Godschild chickened out openly.
RaphielDrake will try to misrepresent the whole thing because he had a dispute with me on another thread and he became personal. I have put him on ignore and I won't respond to anything he writes. He's not capable of being objective so you shouldn't believe anything he writes about me.
