But you can believe in a god that pops into existence out of nothing? A god that is infinitly greater than said universe?
On the topic of hell; when I was a little kid I would think "I'm not really going to hell for missing church, they're just trying to scare me...right?" I never was truly afraid, and since a lot of christians re-interpret the bible nowadays, you can just pretend that they never said that. Of course, it was resolved for me when I became atheist. A loving god wouldn't make it almost impossible to avoid hell, so either:
1. god exists and the church has fatally distorted his teachings
2. god exists and he's far from loving
3. god doesn't exist
