I take my politeness where I can get it. To the extent he's speaking for himself, I appreciate the apology and take it as a promise to do better in future. To the extent he's speaking for others, I totally get being ashamed of people on one's own side, so I value the sentiment. I hope it's a trend. It might be more boring on the various atheist and atheist-leaning forums if fewer Christian visitors come just to preach and troll, but it would reflect something good happening in RL.
Isn't the purpose of criticism to elicit improvement? Whatever you say about Jeff, and I've had my disagreements with him, it's clear he is sincerely trying to be reasonable, in the sense of not losing his cool and being willing to listen to different views. I find one guy like that more challenging than a dozen guys who just come to preach.
