As far as I know I don't control anything. I'm a slave to my genetics and my experiences. My thoughts are merely the result of that combination and the acts that emerge from them emerge solely because of those factors. I have no more choice than any amoeba.
My core purposes are to consume, survive and reproduce. What I consume is besides the point but even if it weren't it is obviously dictated by the aforementioned factors.
What I believe is also besides the point. I will die. My beliefs or lack thereof are irrelevant as they influence nothing when compared to this simple fact. I will die, we all will die. My death may have some small meaning. I might jump in the path of the bullet to save a little girl. That meaning will likely be lost as all meaning is when it falls victim to the treachery of time and human memory. The only thing that will remain is my being dead.
Choice is an illusion. Eventually belief will cease to be a factor if humanity happens to survive much longer. Belief holds us back, it is conflicting with our interests. Tolerance for this burden is beginning to dwindle and this is especially evident in the new generation who would appear equally perplexed and frustrated by this nonsense. Their children will likely inherit this magnified and shed it altogether and if not their children then their children's children. Then it will be forgotten as is the way with all false, useless or redundant information.
Religion will eventually be a thing of the past, as will we. It is inevitable.
