My oldest was hospitalized for jaundice when he was 5 days old. He was the biggest baby in the NICU at 6.5 pounds, and the nurses told me he was healthiest too. He didn't need anything too invasive, just some sun bathing under the lights, though they had to dig around his arm with a needle to get a blood draw :-( I was a sobbing, sleepless wreak. But all those tiny, very sick babies... No one would ever want harm to come to their child... But some of the babies in that NICU had a very long, hard road in front of them. I think it's a morally ambiguous subject.
