If the Republicans get crazier and even further to the right but still manage to get enough political power to enact legislation, they could be VERY dangerous.

That being said, the Republican party was a very weak party from just before World War II until Regan revitalized the party. They lost most the presidential elections and they were generally the minority in congress/senate. I hope this happens and, honestly, I can see it happening. The Republican party has hitched their trailer to the 'angry old white guy vote.' Problem is, that's a dead end demographic. The ranks of democrats are going to swell because they're appealing more to groups that are going to be involve in future elections, namely immigrants, hispanic people and, most importantly, the youth vote. As the older vote dies off, the younger vote becomes the older voters and if they're already solidly alligned with democrats, it's going to be an uphill battle to get them to vote Republican.
You dems are celebrating way too early....I heard this same song and dance from the Democrats, that they needed to reorganize, needed to move to the middle, needed to change leadership...., when they lost the House in the 2010 mid-terms, when G.W. won re-election, and when Clinton lost the Senate and House to the Republicans in the mid-terms of his first term in office....besides it's very difficult to unseat a sitting incumbent president....after Barack is gone I doubt that there will still be the same enthusiasm among minorities and younger voters to get out and vote...

It's always been the easiest thing in the world to unseat an incumbent president who is presiding over a bad economy, or even a good economy still being perceived as bad. I really can't think of another example of a president in this soft an economy being re-elected in my lifetime.

It should have been easy for the Republicans to secure the presidency, but they had an array of clowns to choose from instead of an array of viable candidates.

First: it was extremely 'ranty' to make that whole screed one sentence. Second: I'm not a Democrat. so if you reply try to find another channel.

What's different about the makeup of Democrats and Republicans is that the Democrats' far left are a fringe, while the Republicans far right are their base. President Obama is barely to the left of Reagan.

I agree that the Democrats have a perverse incentive to encourage poverty in order to secure more voters, but it doesn't seem to be a strategy for them. It was however, a strategy of Republicans to increase their power in the short-term by picking up Southern legislators who left the Democrats because of their support of equal rights for blacks. Practically over night the parties changed places in regards to which was more racist.

I agree that Democrats seem too satisfied with making people comfortable in their poverty and could do more to help people escape it. The Republican could do more as well, but they focus on tearing down what we have in support of the poor rather than building something better in its place.

The Democrats are at least consistent, the Republicans run on small government, but it would be unfair to drunken sailors to say that Republicans spent like them as soon as they had enough power.

I don't want the Democrats to run unchecked, but I don't want my only choices that have a reasonable chance of winning when I vote to be either the Democrats or the people who reject science and show contempt for minorities. It shouldn't be too much to ask to be able to choose between reasonable people.
