You and I probably agree politically too on many things. That's the whole point of this thread, I am left without a party, obviously I can't vote for the Democrats because I agree with almost nothing that the party says. However the Republican party is intensely hostile towards Atheists, I would argue more than towards gays. For example John McCain, who is more socially moderate than most Republicans, has said he would "be comfortable with a gay president." How about Atheists? No chance,

" I think the number one issue people should make [in the] selection of the President of the United States is, 'Will this person carry on in the Judeo Christian principled tradition that has made this nation the greatest experiment in the history of mankind?"

This is from one of the less religious Republicans. Romney was far worse on the topic, how can I vote for people who would never vote for me? That's why I remain a conservative, but can not vote Republican.
