Why don't Republicans go after the Atheist vote?

I would have no problem whatsoever voting for a Conservative atheist for president or any other political office as long as my beliefs were respected, (and I believe a conservative atheist would be tolerant of my beliefs)....I have also seen Republican candidates distance themselves from conservative Christian ministers in their campaigns, such as Romney did with John Hagee...but I still voted for the Republican Mormon candidate because he was the far better option than Barack.

You would have no problem with voting for an Atheist conservative, but I can't recall a major Republican candidate who agrees with you. You also aren't in the moral conundrum that I am, when Republican candidates say they would never vote for an Atheist, as the last 4 presidential candidates have made specific references to, it's the same for me as them saying they don't want my vote.

"You also aren't in the moral conundrum that I am, when Republican candidates say they would never vote for an Atheist,..."....I don't know, Christians and Mormons have a history of sharp conflict over religious views, but I voted for the Mormon anyway because his Conservative policies more closely matched mine than does the leftist policies of Barack who attended a Christian church that was pastored by a radical and hateful racist, (Rev. Jeremiah Wright).
