No one ever went on a mass murder rampage with a knife or blunt object.

I think I'm starting to sort of get a gist of where the anti-gun crowd is coming from. Of course I believe that the main concern is compassion and the genuine desire to reduce violence. I think to people coming from that perspective murder is such a strange concept, that it's hard to understand that someone who wants to kill people isn't going to be stopped by the lack of a gun. Where as people who own or have owned guns can easily understand that guns don't make you want to kill someone any more. I also think that you can only come to the conclusions that guns cause more violence if you lack a global perspective. Some of the deadliest school massacres in the last decade have been done entirely without guns. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_attacks_in_China

I'll highlight a couple for you: On March 23, 2010, Zheng Minsheng (郑民生)[2] 41, murdered eight children with a knife in an elementary school in Nanping,[3] Fujian province

An attacker named Wu Huanming (吴环明), 48, killed seven children and two adults and injured 11 other persons with a cleaver at a kindergarten in Hanzhong, Shaanxi on May 12, 2010

There have been tons of rampages with knives and swords. I honestly don't know why people don't know this stuff.
