I was just wondering what Athiests views are these days on Islam.

Islam = Christianity with a bit of Arabic flavor.

Believers in either sect will insist that they are very different but from the naturalist's and skeptic's perspective, there's a greater difference in their costumes than their theology.

I understand your viewpoint but i would argue they are completely different. Different concept and natures of god.

I'll just add....

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/babylonb...tives.html

Quote:The recent death of 13-year old Yemeni child bride Elham Assi, who reportedly bled to death last week after being tied down and forced to have sex with her 23-year-old husband, has sparked outrage among rights activists in Yemen.

They are now stepping up their lobbying efforts to push for the implementation of a child marriage ban.

But that may prove a daunting challenge since fierce opposition against a ban on child brides still runs high among some religious leaders and conservatives.

Sheik Mohammed Hamzi, an official of the Islamist Yemeni opposition party Islaah and the imam of the Al-Rahman mosque in the Yemeni capital of Sana, is one of those who staunchly opposes a legal ban on child marriage.

"death of 13-year old Yemeni child bride Elham Assi, who reportedly bled to death last week after being tied down and forced to have sex with her 23-year-old husband"
Why that article is truly shocking. And barbaric. But is haram in islam based on the Qur'an.
As for marriage age it is when the person is physically(puberty) and mentally ready for marriage. And marriage can only take place by consent from the man and the women.

Due to people burying her it appears to be something like the taliban carrying out the punishment not an Islamic state telling me that it hasn't gone through the correct Islamic court system. Unless you can give me a reference showing it has. Again i would count that picture as haram in islam. So i would regard all the images haram(prohibited)

*Edit* i retract my statements on the whipping one noticed the iran in the top their.
However i couldnt comment on if it haram or not because i dont know why he is being whipped. Plus it is a shia state so may have some laws which i would regard as haram.

The stoning of the woman was in Iran. It was a very big legal case that she lost. She was raped by her brother-in-law is what I remember.. But It does NOT matter if these were Haram or not, this is how Islam is practiced in this world in reality. The Islam that you have in your head exists in an imaginary world. These pictures represent Islam in reality. All you can do is make excuses.
Raped by her brother in law why was she stoned to death? And personally i believe it does matter if it is haram or not. As you cannot hold up a persons actions and claim that this is what the Qur'an teaches if it infact against the religion. By these knowledge i can claim that the attacks between protestants and catholics in ireland is biblically based. Or viewpoints of athiest's on this forum stand for the viewpoint of all athiests. But I get your point brother.

Amazing how many Atheists there were, you'd think the streets were teaming with them. Color me skeptical. If you don't mind a few questions, how old are you now, and how old were you when you converted? What was the religion of your parents and grandparents? On what basis did you come to prefer Islam?

I was brought up christian. Read the bible thought wtf is this shit. Why's god ordering massacres. So became atheist big time. Had debates at school with people. Use to come on forums like this. Use to go on christian forums and debate and point on biblical errors or contradiction ect. Use to think religion was the worlds greatest evil. I really enjoy reading these comments because i used to say the same. I'm currently 17. Converted recently 5 months ago. I believe my dad and mam were christian but like not hardcore just general culture christian. Gonna say the same for my grandparents. Personally i choose Islam based on logic and proof. I've stayed because of the beauty of the religion and the rights it gives me people and the honour people are given. In short it's teachings.

Keep posting your views. Im always interested in other peoples viewpoints. Wont be replying for a bit as gonna sleep. Big Grin
