Islam seems to have a real problem in Salafism, even more of a problem than Christianity has with fundamentalism. Other than that, Muslims seem pretty much like any other religious people, including the part where they all think they have the correct interpretation of their scriptures and and any co-religionists who interpret them differently are doing it wrong.
I'm privileged to have many good religious friends in my life, including many Muslims, thanks to my involvement with refugees. I am quick to defend them against over-generalizations, but don't pretend to be the arbiter of what is and isn't Islamic.
Not just salafism. Islam has the very basic problem that there isnt an organisation for secular or modest islamic worshipping. There are secular and moderate muslims, but they are way to few at this point in time. The salafis remain the absolute biggest threat to direct human security, but it will take heavy deeds to open up secular mosques etc. Just recently, a homosexual mosque was opened in France.
