I honestly can't even imagine the situation arising in the relationship my sweet Sam and I had. Even the thought of us being anything other than a truly equal partnership would have been the most unnatural thing in the world. Yes, there were times when one or the other of us would take the dominant role, for purely practical reasons, and I would always do gentlemanly things like hold doors open for her to go through first etc - which she often protested by the way, as she felt it made me out to be submissive; but in the main we were of one mind, cast a single shadow.
Sorry, I hate using the past tense for this.
