Well, that's probably because you have not stretched your stomach out enough. When you eat mass amounts of food, it strengthens your stomach and digestion to be able to consume more energy. In reality, before a race you are supposed to eat a small mass of food for obvious reasons, but out of training- eat like a truck.
But seriously, try it out- do any exercise, and before the exercise eat however many calories from bananas you want, then try the same exercise with however many calories from chicken as you had from bananas- and see the results.
