In addition to that, almost all the linguistic beauty of the Quran is lost in the process of translation as well. The unique choice of wordings, the syntax of the verse, the powerful rhythm of the passages, the complex metaphors and the layers of meanings that go well beyond the surface, and the manners of eloquence displayed by the Arabic, are virtually all destroyed. The Arabic language is an extremely rich and powerful language and it is simply not possible to convey in another language all the meanings that are conveyed in Arabic.

I've come across one or two sites where a few lines from the Quran are given translations with each word offering several English words with different shades of meaning. Even though one of my main interests is comparative religion I've only got a very superficial idea of what Islam is really about because I don't speak Arabic.

I find the Book of Mormon very interesting. Even though it's style reminds me of the King James version of the Bible it's not the kind of book one would expect from a man with Joseph Smith's educational background. The men who supposedly helped him with his translation of the gold plates didn't seem to have that kind of educational background either.

The human mind is very mysterious.
