I've seen research that tells me that empathy for my fellow man is an evolutionary trait found in a number of animals that form groups and societies, but no one's ever been able to demonstrate the holy spirit to me.
Ah no because evolutionary based morality would be something like tribalism or Nationalism. Or a system of Fascism where only the strong survive at the expense of the weak. But now with a dosage of the Holy Spirit in you you feel true compassion for all humanity and particularly the weak and helpless. Not that non-Christian cultures are all always savage bloodthirsty pagans, ancient China was pretty civilised, ancient Greece was pretty couth as well aside from their gods which weren't.

It's not something you can study in a laboratory because it's non-physical, you have to feel it flowing from within you or some shit like that.

Ummm I think you probably have to "become a Christian" (or something else) first before that can happen. But lets just stick with the hard evidence eh? I could recommend some books on Christian mysticism where the subject is all about experiencing spirit/God in such a way. But these have a frightening level of conversion potential if you're sincerly seeking such an experience. I have mystical book on other religions as well and they're all fairly similar. You can have a go with this, it will give you a small taste of the mystic/emotional angle but you ought to still be a stone cold hearted ruthlessly rational atheist by the end of it.

Having faith in the outer exoteric form of the faith is just the outer skin of your progression towards Christ. But then at that point you could delve deeper in the esoteric tradition and so immersing yourself deeper into the ocean of light that is God. But the first thing you have to do for this to work is attain a genuine belief in the supernatural, or something beyond the physical natural world. Without that you fall flat on your face at the first hurdle.
