What do you expect? The house cat is an obligatory carnivore. It didn't get that way by not having the instinct to kill lots of other animals.
We humans like some intelligence in our pets. Like it or not, intelligence is usually the result of having to out think what you are trying to hunt down, kill and eat. Most herbivores are kinda dumb and do not make empathic pets.
