His reaction was REALLY not warranted. She wasn't insulting him, and there was no real actual reason to mention women with possessive natures since that has not actually come up at all so far by anyone. If you drop a non-sequitur regarding other people into a conversation, chances are higher that people are going to come to the conclusion that you're slipping up and letting it be known that you're coming to an unfounded conclusion about them.
