As evidence to that, a group of Religious leaders from Israel went to the Vatican to (again) request to see if any artifacts from the Temple is in their posession. (They did this a few years before and got some other stuff loaned as a result). So to shut them up, they were told, "Tell you what, we have this hand written text that is a collection of writings by Maimonides (the Rambam) that nobody else has seen, nobody who is alive, anyhow. We will loan it to you if you guys will just shut up and leave us alone". So that text arrived and was examined and copied here in Israel.
Now if that one little gem was in their posession ("Hey, how did you get your hands on this anyhow?"), imagine what other things they have! Maybe a letter from Paul of Tarsus to Gamliel the Elder saying "Ok, I did what you asked, they believe this crap. Can I come home now?!"
