Many years ago I was in love with one of my friends, who did not return my affections. Now, I could've had faith that she'd eventually realize that she too had been in love with me all along and thereby waste my life waiting for that to happen. Instead, I went by the evidence (including her specifically telling me that she had no romantic feelings for me), and though it was initially painful, I stopped hanging out with her and got on with my life. So that pretty much sums up my attitude toward faith.
