Not by everyone. A number of atheist arguments boil down I would have done it differently...

The question then is, why choose such low standards?

They're normal, everyday standards. I would suppose he used such because his target audience includes common people. Legal standards have been suggested as an alternative, but I don't see why you'd use those unless lawyers were your target audience.
