I have a serious medical condition that I have been battling for almost a decade now. There is no known cure, but it was beginning to affect my every day life, especially when I began eating a vegan diet. I found a support group online for people who have the same condition, and it was there that I first heard of the paleo diet. After consulting my doctors, including a specialist, I was informed that my condition may be caused and/or exacerbated by wheat gluten, and I was encouraged to try the paleo diet. I have been on it for four months, and my symptoms have totally disappeared. I used to have very red cheeks all the time too, and it started fading just a week after beginning the diet. I also lost more weight, and at a faster pace than I did when I was eating a vegan diet.
While I am not sure about it's health benefits for the general population, I think it's right for people who suffer from conditions such as mine, and others with other conditions and diseases. I've never been incredibly attached to any food products, so it wasn't hard for me to make the transition.
It's probably not for everybody, but it certainly must be for some people.
What about people with Coeliac disease? I don't have that, but there are many other diseases connected with the consumption and intolerance of wheat gluten.
