Dogs have long been known to shit all over everything we humans hold dear (which would include our laws). If anyone has a legitimate grievance and can be excused for shooting someone it;s probably the humble mutt.
You can't legislate stupid away anymore than you can legislate crazy away..those aren't bugs in the human machine - they're features. Some people, agreed, cannot be trusted. Identifying those people prior to their incidence of stupidity or batshit crazy is difficult. If they pass the course, if they pass the screen, on what grounds do we prevent them from exercising a right? Nevertheless, accidents happen. We don't revoke drivers licenses every time someone gets rear-ended (keep in mind traffic related deaths and gun related deaths are converging, traffic is losing it's previously heady lead). Perhaps it's time to get a little more strict with both eh?
(that convergent bit above probably has something to do with poverty and our shitty economy - people are shooting each other more often as a career choice in the absence of available work - to which they no longer need to drive....I bet the irony of this hypothesis and the legislative impetus behind it won't be lost on you min..lol. Tank the little man, and make sure he has plenty of access to firearms and no real economic options, then lean on a culture of fear to pass even more aggressive legislation. Just saying that's how I'd do it, not, necessarrily, how it's being done
I think the only way to make the douchery more complete, again in my hypothetical, is to engineer a situation in which guns could be outlawed - furthering the grounds on which any given person might be a criminal - while simultaneously washing your hands of it so that later you can say "look at what my opponents did to you, here, vote me in, give me sweeping power, let me help". Fortunately, no one in our government is anywhere near this competent. )

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
