They're not 'magical' enough to keep a relationship together. They're 'magical' only in the sense that they give those couples the same rights as far as taxation and benefits, etc, as straight couples. So yes, I can see why they'd want to be recognized under the law. You're missing the point of my statement. Religion should have no bearing on how inheritance and marriage laws get made in a secular country.
