Unsurprisingly some places on the Eastern Antarctic ice shelf are gaining ice. This is predicted by some models due to increased precipitation. However the Western Antarctic Ice shelf (WAIS) has been loosing a rapidly increasing amount of ice for the past several years. According to two brand new studies the melt there is unprecedented in the last 600 years. The indications are that the net overall result is an annual loss that has been increasing every year since the at least the early 90's.
