Because of their implications. Labeling someone suffering from an illness as a "whiner" or a "crybaby" not only diminishes the severity of the condition, it implies that they should just suck it up and get over it, as if the problem is just a matter of not being such a wimp.

Sure, it is sadness, but that is not what I took issue with.
And no, I am not sad. I used to be. I have developed the skills over time to manage my depression very effectively.
