But actually I don't really agree with the idea they should be elected, at least not now. Voter turn out here is terrible for the HOC, and I don't want to see the HOL become just another mouthpiece for the ruling parties in the commons.

I'd prefer 100% appointed by consensus through a mixture of HOC elections and through popular mandate through certain public groups. A voting body of people at the top of their professions with no political alignment I think would be the best option, however it would work (there are already a number of cross party peers who vote pragmatically on policy).

Fuck the lords spiritual, though, up the ass.
