Rare, but it happens. If not radiation, the already mentioned toxins like those in cigarettes cripple cells, or the random spontaneous mutation of cells with nuclear (cell nucleus) I/O problems all can lead to cancer. Try not to think of poison as a liquid or fume that destroys, but rather an agent that disables certain parts of cells. Cancer is not an infection but rather the effects of poor conditions. Just like growing crops with excess water. We lack immunity to our own cells, really.
