Deist gods are only credited with creating the universe. They do not interfere with it after it is created.
He is a theist, no question. He just made up his own god and gave it

Why do you believe this? There is no good reason to believe this, and it only succeeds in muddling up your thought processes.
Wouldn't it be better to reserve your beliefs for that which can be supported by demonstrable evidence, reasoned argument and valid & sound logic?
Why would you not want to care whether your beliefs are true, or at likely to be true?
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
