I just would like to understand it.
Somehow I doubt that really but I have no problem sharing. Just try to understand that the following is a genuine snippet of how I feel and not an attempt to rile you. That might be difficult for you to accept as you read on.
God:
No need to run through OT God - you know the story but here's the thing - this is his account of himself and he still comes across as a complete shit - but, at least, an honest one. Just out of interest - take your list of 7 deadly sins and see how many he suffers from.
Jesus:
Just ask yourself how can the "son of God" be weak or humble really. Doesn't it strike you as a massive act put on to make you feel so important, whilst, at the same time, enrolling you as a complete slave?
Enslavement is not love. You yourself wrote about a combination of obedience and love for followers. Obedience? Really? That's what love demands of you? I don't love that way. I don't demand love that way - or even request it.
I read Mark's Gospel out of interest (being of Jewish origin I hadn't had any real exposure to it other than through others experience). I have to say I actually went into deep shock when I read it. There are few things in my life I regret learning but this is one. The Jesus I saw bore no relation to the one Christians talk about.
I won't go into detail on the issues that struck me as that is the subject of a book I am writing (whether it will ever get published, of course..)
Suffice to say - not even a nice guy, let alone the messiah.
All of this against a background of a God, so unreasonable, that he demands a human sacrifice to pay for the "sins" of man. As so many of these "sins" are merely acts he regards as being disrespectful to him it makes me gag.
Judaism did not represent a huge leap forwards, imho, for its day (that being about 2500 years before Jesus) but it did, at least, manage to move away from the idea of human sacrifice towards animal sacrifice. The scape goat concept may be a horrific one but at least it is better than scape-human which is the basis of Christianity.
That all of this is set-up as if it is God's sacrifice ...... there simply aren't words.
I will stop there - this is a VERY superficial summary but any more and you will just feel I am beating you up.
