So far, the courts have ruled against those laws every time anyone has tried to pass them. The Republicans are going to need them, too, if they really want to keep control of Texas. By far, the fastest growing population in TX is hispanics and they voted heavily towards democrats. The only reason they don't already run the state is that they traditionally don't turn out to vote. The Democrats are making a real effort to change that, and they're being helped with the quasi-racist shit being said from the right. I can easily see Texas turning purple within the next 4-8 years.
