Look up the Silver Fox Experiment. Russian scientists domesticated it, and it was so different that they had to name the result something else because it was an entirely new species.
There was also a fruit fly experiment done where one group was separated from the first, and over a long period of time, the descendants of the second group were reintroduced to the first. They could no longer interbreed, just like what happens when you try to breed a dog with a cat.
