The Sufi mystical branch of Islam also has the practice of Dhikr which is similar. Tibetan and other Mahayana Buddhist sects create elaborate mandalas to use along with chanting and other sound sensory overload to induce altered states of consciousness and experience what they term the "Buddha Lands."
