The only purpose of a revolving door is to cause pain, confusion and embarassment. The electric ones are the worst where you have to time your entrance perfectly.

Yes, I guess the people who made it up wanted to restrict the entrance of too many people from a single door, so they made it like that so only a couple of people would be able to get into the building at any given time.
However the outcome is as you have described it to be.
