You know, I don't particularly buy that. Many larger departments actually do personality screening to weed out some of the bad apples. Personally, on an individual level, some of the finest people I have ever known have been cops. As neighbors, fellow coaches in youth activities, etc. The problem comes when they put on the blue suit and get together with other cops. The courts and politicians have coddled them to the point where they think they can do anything they want in the name of "law and order."
We have sacrificed way too much of our civil liberty because of this anti-drug shit. From no-knocks warrants to stop and frisk the police have been handed powers which they are arguably incapable of handling.
The problem is not the cops so much as it is what we are willing to tolerate... as long as its just minorities who are getting shot.
