Landato says the suspect was wheelchair bound, but that he was also armed.
Officers approached him after realizing he was wanted on felony drug charges.
"The knives were not pulled, the officers were able to remove those from the waistband. It was when the subject realized the officers knew that he had a weapon on him that he grabbed for the weapon and it was a struggle over that, getting his hand off of his weapon," said Landato.
