The courts and politicians have coddled them to the point where they think they can do anything they want in the name of "law and order."
I would love to see the rate of police officer involved shootings if we started throwing these assholes in jail. The courts send the message that the consequences for excessive force and unjustified killings are minimal to non-existent, so the cops have no incentive to ensure the proper amount of force is used for a situation.
