I completely agree; I don't exactly go sign-seeking every time I stub my toe.. Scripture says in Ecclesiastes that the same sun shines on everyone, regardless of status, morality, etc, meaning circumstances happen to everyone. After all, if God set a fully functioning universe into motion He shouldn't need to intervene every 5 minutes to make normal things happen.
Thats probably getting off topic, but what I was thinking of wasn't so much how things occur. I mean to address how we react to what does occur; considering suffering to be discipline (an opportunity to improve) is probably the best outlook.
@ITChick: I just want to clarify, are you saying God should stop torturing murderers and rapists as well, or that He should stop them from murdering and raping..?
