My cat's being put down today so I can sympathize a bit.
On the plus side he's had a good life at 16 or 17 years old, which is pretty old for a cat and he's lucky in the way he doesn't know he's going to die.

It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
