Pap, I'm glad to hear that you're contemplating getting another dog soon. While it is no doubt true that no dog will ever replace Popeye, the companionship may help to fill the empty space.
It's been nearly four years since I had to let my lab Buddy go, and I regret not getting another dog right away. It didn't get easier, if anything it got harder. Pepper hasn't much time left, I think - she is 15 and I know it's only a matter of time.
Perhaps it's time for me to do so as well.
