Welcome from another "born a heathen."
Your upbringing sounds a lot like mine to the extent that my parents wanted me to discover for myself how to think about the world. Both were non-practicing Christians whom I think were best characterized as agnostic. On the weekends, either Saturday or Sunday depending on which "holy day" was appropriate, we got dragged to every imaginable kind of religious service: Unitarians, Catholics, Methodists, Lutherans, Baptists, Presbyterians, Jews, Buddhists, UCC, Seventh Day Adventists, Mormons... they, and others I don't even remember, all had a crack at us. I found it all culturally intriguing but not persuasive. So I wondered for a time why I didn't get the joke and spent a chunk of my life reading the bible and other holy works, figuring go to the source, right? Boy, THAT was a mistake! Didn't take long to understand -- quite to my horror -- that significant segments of the world's population labor under mass delusions, which are largely reinforced by the fact that so many others labor under them, too. How sick is that??
Anyway... sorry for the digression... glad you're on board, and I look forward to reading your contributions!
