Is it just a fully racist state? One where everyone is racist... the few people who aren't could be called aracist... but it seems those were just called "nigger lovers", or something like that...
Fair enough. The confederates were a group of states that, among other things, still supported slavery. They were predominantly Christian too, but that's just an interesting side note. The term "nigger lover" would be an example of the type of baggage that could follow from an unnecessary term such a Aracist. Racism is a bad idea, one need not give themselves a title to denote that they stand on a particular side against a bad idea. Let's just be against bad ideas! Look at how many threads on here are dedicated to the definition of Atheism. Watch a few debates online and see how many times things are said such as "Atheism is not true." What??
Religions are bad ideas. Beliefs in them, equally so. Atheism is nothing more than a byproduct of being rational in the midst of hearing an irrational idea. Why do we need videos like this:
Yet, we have them! I think that just challenging bad ideas when they are presented to us is what is necessary to rid our society of another bad idea. Slavery in America, and racism as a whole was just as prominent as religion at some point, and it was taboo to say anything against it. But now, the taboo is saying something in support of that idea, not pointing out the cruelty in it.
In society, the taboo is challenging religion. Religion is a bad idea that is benign from scrutiny, yet it's the cause of so much destruction. The term Atheism seems to be a distraction, and it's not what the battle is over. The battle is over WHY atheism needs to be a word at all. It draws an unnecessary line in the sand. Atheists on one side, Theists on the other. That's not what needs to be debated. The debate is over good ideas vs. bad ones. And what is the making of a bad idea? That needs to get discussed. We live in a time where you can be smart enough to obtain a PHD in Biology, and yet still believe Jesus was born from a virgin mother! These are people who are otherwise quite intelligent. But, they are convinced of some really bad ideas. There are good ways to discern truths, and bad ones. This is what needs to be discussed. Not whether or not Atheists eat babies. That's an absurd distraction to an otherwise productive conversation.
