Sure. Let's just hand down death for every transgression. Can't get more effective a deterrent than that, right?

I'd say loss of a hand is much less serious than loss of ability to reproduce.

If you're a B.C. farmer or housewife, the loss of a hand makes almost every task you need to do to subsist is made either vastly more difficult or impossible. You can still work a farm or perform a craft without a penis. Losing a hand would objectively be a far more serious punishment.

Compromise implies imperfect people. Jesus says straight out that OT divorce law was a compromise.

A god restricted by the imperfections of the people he made can not be termed perfect.

Typical liberal more concerned with the perpetrator than the victim.

Yeah, because it is of material benefit to the victim that the perpetrator is given a savage and disproportionate punishment.

Typical theist, justifying atrocities by whatever means necessary.
