The real irony of this statement is that Turkey is one of the countries in the middle east where they won't cut off your hand for stealing. They have a secular constitution and don't have Sharia law. I'm also not sure what that has to do with anything though. If you support that passage in the bible (and indeed many of the Old Testament laws) you support something very similar to Sharia law.
It's very hard to get a straight answer about whether or not these guys (GC and John V) support the cutting off of hands as an appropriate punishment for assault. John V has been dodging the question hard.

The government being allowed to maim people is not sensible.
I never said it was appropriate in Turkey and I do not think it's the way to go today, we have jails to use now. We support our jails with taxes today, in those times they had few prisons and not nearly the economy to support a jail system, heck we can't afford the system we have now. We put so much into our criminal system we can't afford to give kids the schools they need. Remember when this law was given the Israelites were wonders in the wilderness, they had no jails at all, even when they took Canaan there were no real jails.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
