You didn't have to join in.

Prison time. Unlike you, I'm not about to indulge in this petty eye for an eye crap.
Quote:The adults deserve it, for the children it's nothing compered to eternal happiness.
Then why put them on earth at all?
Quote:Nice try at shifting the burden of proof. Is there any underhanded debate technique that you don't use?
How is it a shifting of the burden of proof? I already explained why I thought slavery is an immoral proposition; it's a violation of a number of basic freedoms (freedom of movement and of employment leap immediately to mind, though there's several others) and you just sort of ignored that. It's cool and all, you get your uncomfortable silence, but let's not act like I haven't given my position here.
Quote:Not at all. People hate being judged. The difference between me and you is that I've looked at myself and found myself guilty. You justify yourself, primarily by lowering standards to a point you can live with.
Oh look, holier than thou attitude rather than anything real. Neat.
Quote:Now, can you explain why slavery is wrong? I'm not saying it isn't, just wondering what your rationale is.
Because it provides direct harm to the individual. We as a society need to prize certain individual freedoms related to our ability to choose how to live our lives, because without them... we wouldn't have freedom of choice within our lifestyle. Personal happiness is important, and there's no way to equitably allow that in cases of slavery, because slavery by definition isn't an equal relationship.
This doesn't need to be handed down from god, or ordained by priests, it's simply about harm to the individual. Deprivation of liberty is harmful. That's why kidnap victims don't like their kidnappers.
