Technically yes. One could become a Jew, but that did not make him one of the chosen/Member of the tribe so to speak.
So let me get this straight ...
Nearly every tribe of people on the planet has a god or gods. So obviously, the Hebrews had one too ... and what a coincidence, THEY happened to be the "chosen people." In fact, not only did they happen to be god's chosen people (for some unknown reason the creator of everything in the universe liked their DNA a little bit more than everyone elses), but they took it upon themselves to kill men women and children of other nations who didn't happen to share their opinions. Oh, and where did they get their opinions? From their parents - who got their opinions of THEIR god from crazy uneducated dead people who wrote down that quote, "GOD LIKES US BEST."
