Lets look at the forewardprogressives article, this segment in particular. Note that 'POLITICO' in this article is a hyperlink to the politoc article with the original quote from Dr Goldfarb.

The ellipses concerned me, it looks as though the part where the doctor explains exactly why it's not very scientific has been omitted. And what is 'this' which the Dr is referring to?
If we click the politico link to find the Dr's quote and get the context we find that he is in fact talking about the 'drink more water' campaign's claims of water being our original energy drink and that he is one of the experts concerned about the way the campaign is being framed.

Which is pretty much what pine said earlier in the thread.
Though it seems that the same ellipses exist in this article, what is presumably in those ellipses is given and summarised in paragraphs immediately after.
This forward progressives writer ('journalist'? i've got no idea what this organisation actually is) has misquoted Dr Goldfarb, misrepresented his arguments, and proceeded to mock his straw man creation. While linking to the very article and quote that proves he's as full of shit as it's possible to be whilst still being made up of mostly water. I award him no points.
This is lazy writing at best. Malice or incompetence? I report, you decide. Why are you linking to this trash?
But that's not the main point of the article. The main point is about conservative's reactions to the campaign (for my part I predict that it's going to be a lame waste of money as usual, which will try to make water 'hip' but just make everybody cringe), and we get anonymous forum posts on The Daily Caller and a tea party websites as proof, it's not the articles on those pages, it's the comments section, and not a closed comments section as the most recent comment on the tea party site is:

Fantastic stuff. The comments section, linked with Facebook (so not quite as anonymous it would seem), seems overrun with trolls at the moment.
And I'm sure that the conservatives saying they now won't drink the water cause it comes with her endorsement are soooooo super serious, not at all joking :eye roll:
And the quote from the daily caller's comments section? (screenshotted in the original article)
Yeah, he's super serious. He may as well have added that he's gonna get himself a 1967 Cadillac, El Dorado convertible. Hot pink with whaleskin hub caps and all leather cow interior and big brown baby seal eyes for headlights, and then drive around in that baby at 115 mph...
Utter dribble (see what I did there? It's a water drinking joke, teehee).

Quote: So what’s so controversial about the first lady choosing to recommend drinking more water? Apparently, everything.
POLITICO contacted Dr. Stanley Goldfarb of the University of Pennsylvania, who told them, “There really isn’t data to support this. I think, unfortunately, frankly, they’re not basing this on really hard science. It’s not a very scientific approach they’ve taken… To make it a major public health effort, I think I would say it’s bizarre.”
No, Dr. Goldfarb, the only thing I find “bizarre” is your apparent urge to find something horribly wrong with Mrs. Obama telling Americans that water is good for them. Oh my God, recommending that people drink water? Oh my, how bizarre and unseemly! What was she thinking?!
Apparently some people would rather have millions of Honey Boo Boos running around hopped up on “Go Go Juice” all day.

Quote:However, several public health experts contacted by POLITICO said they had concerns about the way the White House was framing the campaign. Those experts said the health benefits of increased water consumption are murky and there are no widely accepted criteria for how much water individuals should drink each day.
“There really isn’t data to support this,” said Dr. Stanley Goldfarb of the University of Pennsylvania. “I think, unfortunately, frankly, they’re not basing this on really hard science. It’s not a very scientific approach they’ve taken. … To make it a major public health effort, I think I would say it’s bizarre.”
Goldfarb, a kidney specialist, took particular issue with White House claims that drinking more water would boost energy.
”The idea drinking water increases energy, the word I’ve used to describe it is: quixotic,” he said. “We’re designed to drink when we’re thirsty. … There’s no need to have more than that.”

Quote: I already drink plenty of water, eat right, recycle, and keep my thermostat in check because I choose to do so and like to do so. But these godless progressives pushing people to do these same things makes me NOT want to do these things. So for lunch, I'm going to have a bag of chips washed down with a sugary soda pop, and eat it in 60 degree AC. And then I'm going to toss the trash in the street.
