No, but evolution isn't a continuous process of advancement, either. There's no "up" for it to go in. Example, as I've said before: whales are the descendants of early ungulates, land animals that returned to the sea and developed a marine form again. It's evidence in the bones of their flippers, along with the fact that they, well, breathe air.
