I'm new here.
I was wondering if I could have your views/opinions on this?
Basically, I've never read the bible, I've never been to church (apart from weddings/funerals and when I was dragged along a few times as a kid) and I've really never made any effort to really look into anything religion-based, but I just don't believe what I've heard. I know the basic story that there's a God who made the Earth bla bla bla, and he had a son who killed himself for our sins ... you know.
Is it hypocritical of me to be an athiest when I've never properly looked into Chrisitanity?
Thanks.
I will add one more thought.
Unlike what the majority of Christians think (and you may have a bit of this thinking also), atheism is not the opposite of Christianity.
It doesn't take me any more effort to disbelieve in the god character of the Bible as it does to disbelieve in Shiva, Ahura Mazda, Vishnu, or any of the other 1000's of gods believed to exist by humanity.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
